IN THE BEGINNING...

They told them they were evil.
They told them they were possessed by demons.
They told them that darkness ran in their veins.

Holy Innocents Home for Children is a haven for orphaned boys who have nothing and no one. The priests watch over them, educate them, raise them in the family of the church.

Except for some.

Seven of the orphans are no ordinary boys. They attract the attention of the priests for their acts of violence, of bloodlust. The priests realize these boys are drawn to the darkness.

And the priests are no ordinary priests. They are the Brethren, a secret sect who believe themselves on a divine mission to seek out evil in the boys in their care. Seek it out, and then drive it out.

The seven have fallen from God’s grace. And the Brethren will cleanse their blackened souls…

Dark Contemporary Romance novella. Contains sexual situations, violence, sensitive and taboo subjects, offensive language and topics some may find triggering. Recommended for age 18 years and up.

Review:

I loved this novella! I’m chomping at the bits to read the first book in this series!!! Tillie Cole does not shy away from the horrors some people face. She does not avoid the graphic details. This series IS NOT for the faint of heart.

Tillie Cole always brings on the “OMG WHAT IS HAPPENING”- ness with her books. It is something I have come to love (and fear) about this author. She can write the most horrendous situations and yet, I’m glued to the pages and can’t look away. This was just the prequel, not even a full book, and it was so intense and gritty and seedy and oh-so-OMG-sad. This novella was not a happy novella this was not a cheery dark romance this was a DARK ROMANCE at its core. This was make-you-hate-people dark. This was make you crave the next book dark.

Cole has always been able to shock me with humanities darkness, which doesn’t even make sense because she seems like such a lovely woman! I’ve been reading Cole for a good number of years now and I’m always just completely SHOCKED at how she can still SHOCK me! How is that possible? How is she able to do this? I usually would love to get inside and author’s head but I’m not sure I could handle being inside Cole’s! I really just want to give her a hug! And maybe a cookie. Snickerdoodle, maybe?

Even though Cole writes some pretty dark stuff she is always true to one thing- family. Whether it be blood or not, Cole can write a group of people who are just SOOO MESSED IN THE HEAD and yet they have an unbreakable bond to each other. It is definitely my favorite aspect of her writing. This was only a 140 page book and it left me rocked! Shaken! Blown away! Overcome! Rattled!

I’m so in for this series! I’m not even sure if I will be able to handle this darkness but I’m definitely going to try! If you are a lover of the wickedly dark romance genre then you need to read Tillie Cole. Her Hades Hangmen series- Amazing! Her Scarred Souls series- Fabulous! She writes other not so dark books too that are totally worth checking out as well! But the darkness is something else!

Excuse me, I think I may need to lay down after finishing this book!

-Happy Reading!
