Victorian Rebels Series Review

Victorian Rebels Series Review

Series: The Victorian Rebels
Author: Kerrigan Byrne
Publisher: St. Martin’s
Rating: ★★★★★

I have been in a huge Kerrigan Byrne mood lately. I have been devouring this series at lightening speed. I unfortunately read The Duke With The Dragon Tattoo first. I don’t recommend doing that. I wasn’t paying attention to which ARCs were part of a series and just grabbed one that looked really good. And don’t get me wrong it was really good! I was just a wee bit confused because, you know, there are 5 books before that one that put everything into context! Reading the 6th book first kinda took some of the suspense, and of course the AWESOME build up, out of the other books but I’ve completely enjoyed reading all of them. Byrne is a phenomenal writer! I literally spent this entire month reading as many of her books as I could. It was a great month!

The only book that really didn’t do it for me was The Highlander. There really isn’t any good reason for me not enjoying it as much as I enjoyed the others in this series. It just didn’t work for me. It was still enjoyable just not my favorite. And that will always happen when you read a series, no matter the author. I’m a huge J.R. Ward fan but Phury’s book is just 🤮.

I highly recommend this series because it seems much more true to the times than a lot of other historical romances I read. Byrne makes sure to show that there are other races in London besides white, she makes sure to show the contrast between the poor and the rich, and also shows how barbaric life back then could be. I’m not saying that other authors in this genre don’t do the same things but Byrne just did it in a way that stood out to me. I can name dozens of historical romances that take place in London that don’t have one single person of color in them. Which is part of my annoyance with this genre. (I’ve made an entire rage post about this, click here to read it.) Yes, no main character is a person of color but at the very least there are secondary characters that aren’t all white. Ok, I won’t rant about this any longer.

In all, this is such a great series and there is more to come! Yay!!! Byrne will be one of those authors that I will read for rest of my life. I may be persnickety when it comes to my historical romances but when I find an author I love- it’s love for life!
