The Trope I Hate...
What is the one trope that you see in books and you just CANNOT stand! Like, when you see it you feel this rage come over you and you just want to throw your book across the room and set it on fire. Well, I don’t actually do that but I do roll my eyes and put my book down and walk away from it for a little while.
For me, the trope that just irks the hell out of me is when the guy literally rips the clothes off of a woman during a sex scene. Do men really do this? If my boyfriend ripped a shirt or a bra or a pair of panties I would be so pissed. Mood ruined- we are now going to go to Target and he is replacing them. Clothes are expensive! Don’t rip clothes!!!! What if you’ve worn your nicest clothes and underwear set for your sexy date AND HE RIPS THEM!!! What the hell!!!! No! Bad sexy date!!! Gah! Just don’t do it!
I understand that it’s a power move and is supposed to be all sexy and dominating and blah blah blah but dude, you’re buying me new clothes! Right now!
I also hate, especially in romance, the whole I-love-you-and-want-to-be-with-you-but-I-just-can’t-because-of-whatever-reason-but-I-love-you-but-I can’t-love-you-but-I-love-you thing. So annoying! I love Christine Feehan but she has that formula in most of her books (especially her Dark series) and I have to take breaks from that series because it drives me crazy!
What’s a trope you hate in any genre?
