Princess Lenora Celeste Beatrice Arabella Pembrook had an unusual childhood. She was raised to be a Queen—the first Queen of Wessco.
It’s a big deal.
When she’s crowned at just nineteen, the beautiful young monarch is prepared to rule. She’s charming, clever, confident and cunning.
What she isn’t…is married.
It’s her advising council’s first priority. It’s what Parliament is demanding, and what her people want.
Lenora has no desire to tie herself to a man—particularly one who only wants her for her crown. But compromises must be made and royals must do their duty.
Even Queens. Especially them.
Years ago, Edward Langdon Richard Dorian Rourke, walked away from his title and country. Now he’s an adventurer—climbing mountains, exploring jungles, going wherever he wants, when he wants—until family devotion brings him home.
And a sacred promise keeps him there.
To Edward, the haughty, guarded little Queen is intriguing, infuriating…and utterly captivating. Wanting her just might drive him mad—or become his greatest adventure.
Within the cold, stone walls of the royal palace—mistrust threatens, wills clash, and an undeniable, passionate love will change the future of the monarchy forever.
Every dynasty has a beginning. Every legend starts with a story.
This is theirs.
I may have studied English in college and have been an avid reader my entire life but I don’t know if I have the words to express how much I LOVED this book! Every time I read a new book by Chase it becomes my favorite but this one is my favorite! I am in awe of this book!!!! I didn’t know how much I needed this book in my life. I truly am blown away by Chase’s skill and all together amazingness!
In the beginning of this book I cried my freaking eyes out- I mean it was ugly, gut-wrenching, and messy. Why Emma Chase, why? God, the way Chase is able to bring emotion out of me always amazes my usually cold black heart! That’s all I will say about the beginning of the book though! You must read to experience!
Lenora is this powerhouse woman! She is that badass, ball-busting, fierce woman that makes you proud. I love that she is not afraid to be a commanding presence in a room of people who want her to fail. I could just babble on about how phenomenal she is but this post would be ungodly long and I still want to talk about Edward!
Edward!!! God, he is the best person for Lenora and really any woman (wink-wink). He makes her strong, vulnerable, and a better person. But the thing I loved most about Edward was his ability to step aside and let Lenora be the Queen. He propped her up instead of ripping her down, he is her sounding board, and her everything. The gender roles were reversed in this book and I really, absolutely, genuinely loved how it was talked about and shown.
Again, I AM IN AWE OF THIS BOOK!!!! I think I’m going to blow my reading schedule to smithereens so I can reread the series. This series has always been one of my favorites (along with Chase’s Tangled series- also amazing!!!) and this book just reinforces the fact that I LOVE this series and I LOVE Emma Chase!!!
I’m cutting myself off- because I will just write and write and write about this book and I really just want everyone who reads this to go and read it! The best part? This is a standalone series- you can start with this one! So, go start this series. I promise you won’t be disappointed!!!
P.S. Did you see that cover!?!?!?!!?!?
