This masked lord...

Lord Jasper, younger son of a duke, suffered horrible burns fighting in the Napoleonic Wars. He wears a mask to hide his face from the stares and screams and finds comfort in the shadows. Jasper is an exceptional bounty hunter, so when a woman summons him to her deathbed and asks him to find her runaway daughter before she passes away, he doesn't refuse. Jasper is close to his quarry when he's knifed by an assailant. Imagine his surprise when he regains consciousness in the arms of the woman he seeks. Except she's not at all what he expected.

Is not the only one with scars.

On a remote cliff on the sea, Olivia Carlisle calls her five-year-old son in from an approaching storm. But the little boy is more interested in the man he's found on the trail to their hidden cottage. Olivia fears men and wants nothing more than to leave the injured man where she found him. But his knife wound is severe, and with the approaching storm, she knows leaving him will condemn him to death. As Jasper begins to heal, Olivia acknowledges her attraction to him, even though such emotions terrify her almost as much as returning to London. Jasper must convince her that her only chance at safety is to challenge the man who pursues her. They must travel into the lion's den—he to face his vulnerability and she to face her worst fears.

The theme of this book is so important and so current! I am more than impressed and in awe of this book and Galen’s writing. I have no idea how Galen is able to bring out so many emotions in me. No- I didn’t cry but I felt anger and rage and so much love for Olivia and Jasper. It was almost over whelming.

Olivia is a character that, unfortunately, embodies so many women. She is this strong, brave, courageous woman- not because she was raised that way but because her circumstances demanded it of her. She became this fierce woman and took her power back. It scared her but she did it.

Japser! If I thought I loved Jasper in the first few books, I KNOW I love him now. Not only is he an amazing man, his character is unshakable. His reverence for Olivia was astonishing. I really could go on and on about Olivia and Jasper as characters but they were not the only reasons for me loving this book.

I don’t want to give any thing away and spoil certain aspects of the book so I will just say this- the book’s theme of reclaiming your sexual desires, taking charge of your sexual pleasure, and constant communication between partners is outstanding. These topics are something that I love seeing because they are important aspects of life that are just now becoming something people talk openly about. The entire book was like reading an open letter to women. I really can’t relate to you how much this book meant to me and will mean to others.

Shana Galen, as always, cuts straight to the heart with topics that are usually not talked about. I am in awe of her work and believe all her books in this series should be read by everyone because their themes are ones EVERYONE can relate to in some fashion.

Truly, amazing! If you haven’t read this series yet, you have to! Now, right now!

-Happy Reading!
