Second Chances Shmances
Giving an author a second chance? Do you? Don’t you? Why?
I usually don’t give authors a second chance. I just don’t want to waste the time when I have so many other books to read. However, if there is an author that I love but I don’t like one book they have written, I will still read their other books. Yes, I know, I’m bias, blah blah blah.
However, I’m grappling with my hard fast rule right now. I was not a fan of How to Walk Away by Katherine Center, which everyone seemed to love except me and one of my friends. I was so into the book until after chapter 5 or 6. After that it lost me. Don’t get me wrong- Center is a great writer and I was completely hooked at first but it went in a direction I did not like at all.
Fast forward to now: I have a copy of her new book, Things You Save in a Fire, and it’s mocking me. The plot sounds so interesting but I’m nervous to get invested in the book because I was just SO MAD while reading How to Walk Away. I don’t want to be mad again! And I hate not finishing a book. Things You Save in a Fire is just sitting there and I’m ignoring it while it sits there patiently impatient…
Has this ever happened to you?
